We re-polished the table of this Blue-green Tourmaline
while in the ring

A jeweler in Colorado sent us this ring which had many scratches in the table from being worn for years.

They asked me if we could re-polish the table while it is still in the ring. We do a lot of those.

This gemstone is bezel set. When a gem is bezel set and needs to be repaired, there is more risk for the jeweler to 'remove' the gemstone from the mounting than if it was prong set. And after the stone is repaired, there is also more risk when resetting in with a heavy bezel. That is why they like it when we can repair the stone while it is still in the mounting.

Here you can see the numerous scratches from years of being worn.

One of the scratches is pretty deep.

Polishing the table

We are able to mount the ring in our faceting machine in a special way to re-polish the table.

In this photo we have the table on a pre-polish lap to take out the deep pits and scratches.

After this we go to a different lap for the high polish.

Photo shows the table of the Tourmaline almost finished.

I am almost finished polishing the table.
