Repairing an Amethyst fantasy cut
A jeweler sent us this fantasy cut Amethyst which had been damaged during setting. They needed it repaired to look like new again.
A jeweler sent us this fantasy cut Amethyst which had been damaged during setting. They needed it repaired to look like new again.
At left you can see a chip at the top of the stone, in the area of the culet or keel line.
This is another top down view of the chip along the ridge of the keel line.
In this photo I am using a diamond file to remove the chip and creat a new flat surface. Once I have the new surface nice and flat, I will pre-polish and then polish it.
The key to a repair of this type is hand-control with the tools to keep the surface nice and flat.
You can now see the newly polished flat surfaces which look like they were originally cut this way.
