A jeweler in Florida sent us this large oval Tanzanite which had several chips at the culet.
The chips showed from the top of the stone and detraceted from the beauty of the stone.
They asked me if I could repair the chips with a minimum of weight loss. I told them that I certainly could.

To perform the repair, I need to match up the pattern in the culet area. This is very important to be done correctly because that is the spot where the eye focuses when the stone is finished.
The repair is now finished.
I included this photo because it shows the pattern on the pavilion, which produced a very brilliant stone.
I recorded all of the angles and indexes of this cut so that I can reproduce this same pattern in the future.
You can now see the new culet with no chips.
I was able to repair the culet without 'windowing' the stone. This is very important. Before performing the repair, I examine the angles and study the pattern in order to ensure that the repair can be performed without windowing the stone.
You can now see the finished stone, which is very beautiful !
