A number of years ago a discovery was made in Peru of massive Opal which is pink.
This Opal material does not have any play of color in it. But for jewelers and jewelry designers who are looking for a pink opaque material, it is a good option. It can look very similar to pink coral at a fraction of the cost.
It seems to be more durable than regular Opal.
Here you can see what the pink Opal look like next to Rose Quartz cabs. As you can see it has a much richer color.
This piece, which has a sawn surface, shows some of the texture of the materail. You can seem a small amount of mottling of the color.
When cutting cabs, I cut around the white spots which you see.
