Inlay ring with Black Jade and drill
for Diamond and gold dots

A jeweler in Oregon sent us a ring which they needed re-inlaid with Black Jade. It had originally been inlaid with Black Coral but did not turn out well at all.

Below you will see how we did it.

The old ring and the new ring

The ring on the left is the ring which had been inlaid with Black Coral. It was flaking and falling apart. Black Coral is not a very durable material to be used for inlays.

The ring on the right is the new ring which the jeweler made, which they need me to inlay with Black Jade.

Photo shows the ring and the piece of rough Black Jade which I will use for the inlay.

Ring and rough Black Jade

This is the piece of Black Jade rough which I have trimmed to be used for the inlay.

We use a very hard and clean Black Jade which is known as Edwards Black Jade, which is from Wyoming.

Carving the Black Jade

Here you can see the carving tool and Diamond bur which I use to shape the Black Jade inlay to fit the ring.

It can take a long time to get the fit nice and tight. Inlaying curves takes even more time to get them to fit nicely.

Finished Black Jade

The inlay piece is now fit and ready to be glued in place in the ring.

Here you can see the Black Jade inlay glued in place in the ring with a very strong Epoxy.

We guarantee all of our inlays to stay in place for a minimum of 1 year, as long as the back of the inlay is not exposed to the finger.

drilled for the Diamond head

The jeweler needed us to drill a hole in the Black Jade so that the Diamond head could sit 'down into' the Black Jade and the post on the bottom of the head would stick through the bottom of the ring for them to attach the head.

The Black Jade also needed to be drilled for 2 small white gold dots for accent. We drilled and glued the white gold dots in place and polished them flush with the surface of the Black Jade.

Here you can see the finished ring with the Diamond ready to be set into the Black Jade.

It is a very beautiful ring!
