We Inlaid a Black Jade arch and drilled for square tubes

A jewelry designer in Oregon designed a ring which needed square tubes set into a Black Jade inlay which arched across the top of a white gold ring. They would set square Diamonds into the tubes after we are finished.

We use Edwards Black Jade, which is a very hard, tough, and clean material which works great for inlays.

You can see that the Black Jade takes a very high polish.

Photo shows me making the square holes in the Black Jade inlay.

Making the square holes

You can see the ring in the process of making the square holes and fitting each of the white gold square tubes into each hole.

Making square holes takes a lot of time by hand filing them with diamond files embedded with diamond sand.

Inside of the ring

You can see how the tubes are sticking through the bottom of the ring shank and are also sitting above the level of the Black Jade inlay. The jeweler had asked us to leave the tubes sticking up by this amount.

This photo shows the finished ring with the 3 square tubes sitting in the Black Jade inlay.

The finished ring

Here you can see the finished ring with the square tubes sitting in place.

After the jeweler receives it from us, they will afix the bottoms of the square gold tubes to the shank of the ring and then set Diamonds into the tops of the tubes.
