Complex Jasper inlays in ring

A local jeweler, who is very creative and skilled in custom design, received a unique request from their customer. Their customer had piece of Jasper which had a unique pattern. The customer also had their own ideas of how they wanted the ring built.

One of their desires was for one of the inlays to run UNDER the marquise diamond. They also wanted the sides of the ring to have 'fins' which were also to be inlaid with their Jasper. They also wanted the Jasper inlays to be visible from both sides of the fins.

This photo shows how I inlaid the Jasper UNDER the Diamond while the Diamond was already set.

This is difficult to do while still making the inlay fit very tightly, but it is a fun challenge.

The row of inlays which run under the Diamond are a type of Jasper known as Bruneau Jasper.

The customer wanted the 'fins' on the ring to be inlaid in a way that the pattern of the Jasper would be visible from both sides.

This meant I needed to fit the inlays and then polish both sides of the pieces before gluing them in place.

The underside of the ring was inlaid also

This customer wanted one of the inlays to touch their finger. So the designer made an inlay area under the shank. It is difficult to inlay into tight areas. I can do it. It just takes a bit longer.

In this shot you can see the center row of Jasper inlays and also the other type of Jasper which is inlaid on the sides of the fins.
