I re-faceted this Aquamarine to a Radiant cut

The jeweler sent us this Aquamarine because it was rather lifeless as an emerald cut.

After discussing options with them, they decided to have us re-facet the pavilion into a Radiant cut for extra brilliance, and also close the window.

A Radiant cut still has the 8 sided outer shape of an emerald cut, but the facet pattern is much more brilliant.

You can see in this photo how lifeless this stone is.

I need to take the length and width in just a bit to alter the geometry of the stone to close the window.

It isn't always necessary to change the length or width but with this stone it was. And it was a worthy trade-off.

Pavilion before re-faceting

This shows the Aquamarine on the dop stick on my faceting machine before re-faceting the pavilion.

Shows that I have cut the first 4 facets on the pavilion.

First facets on the pavilion

You can see that I have started cutting the first 4 facets on the pavilion to begin making a Radiant cut.

The stone now has more facets on the pavilion which are unpolished.

More facets

I have added more facets.

Polishing the pavilion

I am almost finished polishing the pavilioin.

I use a special polishing lap which puts a great polish onto Aquamarine.

I am now cutting the crown facets.

I have already polished the table.

I put a cissors cut on the upper row of crown facets to mix it up a bit.

The Radiant cut is finished

Here you can see the finished stone.

As you can see, it still have the emerald cut shape, but the Radiant cut faceting pattern gives it much more brilliance than a standard emerald cut did.
