Closing the window on a faceted Pink Tourmaline

Picture of an emerald cut Radiant cut pink Sapphire.

A local gem collector purchased this beautiful Pink Tourmaline from a gem dealer overseas.

They contacted us regarding re-faceting it to close the window.

Below, you will see photos and description of the cutting process.

BEFORE re-faceting

This is what the pink Tourmaline looked like before I started working on it.

You can see the dead spot in the center of the stone where it loses both color and brilliance.

A photo of the same pink Tourmaline during the re-faceting process.

During re-faceting

Here you can see a photo which shows the new facets I am putting on the pavilion which will create the proper geometry for reflecting light back to the eye.

Photo showing the finished gem after re-faceting. It is more brilliant now and has better color.

Finished Pink Tourmaline with window closed

Here you can see how much better the gem looks now that the window is closed and the entire pavilion is able to reflect the color and brilliance back to the eye.

If you have any questions regarding a gem you have which may need its window closed, contact us and we will be glad to examine your stone and give you a cost estimate for re-faceting.
