Invisible set Diamonds and other gems
into Onyx or other materials
We are able to set Diamonds or other gems into Onyx or other gem materials with no gold bezel.
We do this by drilling different sized holes (see diagram to the right -->
We first drill a hole which is smaller than the Diamond all of the way through the Onyx. Then we drill a hole in from the bottom which is just a bit larger than the diameter of the stone to be set. That allows the gem to be inserted in from the bottom and stop when it hits the smaller hole.
We then insert a piece of gold tubing from the bottom which is the same size as the hole and epoxy it into place under the gem. This holds the gem in place and also allows it to be cleaned from below.
We have also done this a couple of times in which we set square Princess cut Diamonds but that is very difficult. Most of the time we set round gems.
