A jeweler had a customer who wanted a nice blue cabochon custom cut to fit their pendant.
We suggested various materials and they finally decided on Blue Chalcedony. Chalcedony is a good hard material.

The piece on the left shows where we used a pencil to draw on the Blue Chalcedony rough material and show the customer what their cabochon would look like.
Once they approve the color, then we cut the cabochon for them.
At left you can see the finished Blue Chalcedony cabochon and the remaining 2 pieces of rough from the original piece.
Here you can see the finished Blue Chalcedony cabochon next to the pendant, ready to be mounted by the jeweler.
