A very large piece of
rough Black Star Sapphire
This is one of the largest pieces of rough black Star Sapphire I have ever seen.
It can take a lot longer to cut and shape a piece of this size into a cabochon because there is so much material to remove.

Here you can see the large Black Star Sapphire which has been shaped into the cabochon shape.
On the right side of the stone you can see some heavy flaws. I sent this photo to the owner of the stone and he decided that he wanted the stone to be made smaller in order to remove those flaws. So we continued cutting and removed them.

Here you can see the finished large Black Star Sapphire and 2 other smaller stars.
They did have stars but were not strong stars. To have a great star in a stone of this size would be very rare. It did show some amount of a star when held in direct sunlight, which is the best way to view stars.
