We carved this Blue Topaz to match
a sketch provided by the jeweler

A jeweler had a customer who wanted a new piece made to match a pendant that she had. The pendant was in the shape of a 'wave' and she wanted a new piece made with the wave shape to be carved in blue Topaz.

The jeweler provided us with their customer's gold wave pendant and also a sketch. We then used blue Topaz rough which we keep in stock. See examples of our Blue Topaz materials.

Sketch to be used for the gem carving

This is the sketch which the jeweler provided to us to illustrate how they wanted the blue Topaz carving to be shaped.

This is the pendant which the customer provided as an example of the 'wave curl' and also the size they wanted the carving to be.

This is a photo which I sent to the jeweler for him to show his customer so they could get an idea of the shade of blue that the Topaz would be. I told them that, after cutting away some of the material during the carving process, the Topaz would 'lighten' in color somewhat.

Carving the Blue Topaz

Here, we are using a diamond carving tool for the detailed shaping of the stone. You can see it is taking shape niecly.

This angle shows you the steps which we carved into the 'wave' to give the wave its 3-dimensional relief.

Here you can see the finished Topaz carving next to the sample pendant. You can also see that the details in the carving are more like the sketch which they had provided.
