Re-polishing the Table of a Green Tourmaline while in the ring

This green Tourmaline had been worn for many years and was very scratched and pitted. It can be hard to see the brilliance of the gem when the top surface is similar to frosted glass.

Below, you will see photos and description of the cutting process.

Before Re-polishing the Table

You can see how badly this green Tourmaline is scratched.

Because there are no obstructions above the level of the table, we can re-polish the table.

During Re-polishing of the Table

In this photo you can see how I have mounted the ring in my faceting machine and the table of the Tourmaline is now on the polishing lap.

Finished Re-polished Table

You can now see how much nicer the table of the green Tourmaline looks after it has been re-polished.

The brilliance of the gem can also be seen now and the color is also more vivid.
