It is very common for people to want a Diamond set in the middle of their ring with an Onyx center stone.
This one was a bit of a challenge because they wanted such a large Diamond tube to be set into a rather small Onyx.
We custom cut this Black Onyx stone to fit the ring.
The jeweler's customer did not want the stone to be flat. They wanted it slightly domed on top. They also wanted a Diamond set in the center.
The gold tube with the Diamond is very large for that Black Onyx stone.
When drilling this, we needed to be very careful because the sides of the Onyx are so thin that they could crack during the drilling.
The jeweler didn't want the tube to sit low in the Onyx stone. He wanted it to stick up a certain amount. He had provided me with a sketch of how high he wanted the top of the Diamond bezel to sit above the top edge of the stone.
